Cetearyl alcohol is a mixture of cetyl and stearyl alcohols that can be derived naturally or synthetically. It's a white, waxy solid used in personal care products to provide thickening, binding, emollient and stabilization properties. It's widely used in lotions and creams as it is an ingredient that performs many jobs. It also assists in emulsifying oil-in-water systems. Even though this ingredient is an alcohol, it is relatively large and not drying compared to methanol and ethanol.
