Sodium Hyaluronate

Sodium Hyaluronate

INCI Name: Sodium Hyaluronate

Purposes: Skin-Conditioning Agent , Humectant

The sodium salt of hyaluronic acid, sodium hyaluronate is a water-binding ingredient that hydrates and separates the skin, allowing it to retain water. It helps fight wrinkles and other signs of aging. Hyaluronic acid is a very common ingredient that is used in a variety of ways. This is because hyaluronic acid can be sourced in a variety of molecular weights. Polymers can, ideally, continue indefinitely like a crystal structure. However, when products use a combination of low, medium, and high molecular weight hyaluronic acid salts, a range of skin penetration becomes available - smaller molecules invariably passing deeper into the skin than larger ones.

Hyaluronic acid is essentially a sugar that can be found naturally in the body. It’s a principal component of the extracellular matrix, or the liquid between individual skin cells. Adults can have up to 0.02% of their body mass be in hyaluronic acid, though most of it is in the skin.
