Electrolytes are minerals with a natural positive or negative electrical charge that help regulate many bodily functions, from muscle contraction to sebum production on our skin. In skincare, the primary advantage of electrolytes is that they maintain and balance hydration, even when used at trace levels (ppm). Sodium & Potassium are easily lost when sweating, but when on our skin, they help to hold water in the most superficial layers. Magnesium is known to help maintain a healthy skin barrier. Zinc can help soothe and renew the skin. Finally, Copper was found to support the antioxidant defense of our skin cells.

What are electrolytes and what do they do?

Osmolytes are small molecules that retain a lot of water on the skin, even on the driest day, so that our skin barrier does not have to overwork to keep the skin hydrated and protected from environmental stress. Betaine and Inositol are examples of osmolytes naturally found in our skin.

What are osmolytes and what do they do?

This product was particularly developed for oily, acne-prone skin. This type of skin has specific needs and many of the ingredients we find in other moisturizers are not necessarily ideal for this skin type. Water is actually a best friend of oily, acne-prone skin, and a great way to deliver hydration to this skin type is by combining lots of water with electrolytes and osmolytes that help draw water deeply into our skin, while also smoothing it and balancing oiliness.

Why is there so much water in this formula?

We recommend applying it once or twice daily.

How often can I use the Hydrating Gel Moisturizer with Electrolytes?

Yes. Based on a clinical test with 64 participants, this product did not induce or enhance the appearance of comedones.

Is the Hydrating Gel Moisturizer with Electrolytes non-comedogenic?

You may notice an immediate improvement in hydration, and after a few weeks of use, your skin may feel smoother, less oily, and with fewer blemishes or post-acne spots.
